Mesotherapy

Mesotherapy

Mesotherapy was originally developed for use in humans in the 1950s and later adapted into equine sports medicine!

Mesotherapy is used to help reduce chronic pain by inserting small needles into the mesoderm layer of the epidermis (skin) and injecting an analgesic. This works by stimulating nerves to break the chronic pain cycle. The goal of mesotherapy in horses is to stop the muscle spasm cycle that is occurring along the back muscles. Mesotherapy is helpful in treating several causes of chronic back and neck pain.

We typically used this therapy for our patients with conditions such as:

  • Kissing spine pain

  • Sacroiliac pain

  • Back soreness/stiffness

Often used in conjunction with other therapies such as shockwave therapy, FES, chiropractic, etc.

The number of treatments varies and is dependent on each horse. Generally, benefits are seen after 1-2 treatments.
