UltrasonogRAphy

Ultrasonography uses high frequency sound waves to evaluate tissue in real time.

For lameness, it is mostly used to evaluate soft tissue injuries.  The fibers of tendons and ligaments can be evaluated for enlargement or tears and changes to their attachment points.

Ultrasound is also used to provide guidance for injection of regenerative products for tendinopathies or to assist in joint injection accuracy such as neck and sacroiliac injections.

It can also be used to evaluate the chest or abdomen for horses showing signs of colic or respiratory infections.
